life philosophy of a 3.5 year old

Eliana Joy is three and a half today. We put a candle in a brownie and sang "Half a birthday to you....", a strange and wonderful tradition from my childhood that we have now adopted in our family.

Though she may not be able to put it to words at this point, Eliana has a life philosophy taking shape in her little mind. If you lived with her, you would know that according to Ellie:

1. Life is a celebration. Joy is my default setting.
2. People exist to be enjoyed and entertained. And to bring me snacks.
3. When someone is sad, my funny faces will undoubtedly cheer them up.
4. Although mommy doesn't appreciate all of my 'crafts', great satisfaction can be attained using large wads of tape, scissors, glue and permanent markers.
5. Playdough rocks.
6. Every day should include a playdate.
7. A sister is a built-in best friend.
8. Sometimes you have to communicate with your sister the way a small dog has to make up for its size with its sound. Growling is particularly effective.
9. When your mom tells you she loves you, she really likes when you tell her, "I love you more."
10. My favourite new Raffi song says it best: "All I really need is a song in my heart, food in my belly and love in my family."

You got it, babe.
