Hi everybody. This is Maia.
My family and I have gone on a big trip to the mountains of North Carolina. That’s not in Canada. That’s in the United States.
Before we left for North Carolina, we went to see Grandma and Grandpa. Grandma was in the hospital because she has a very sore leg. The doctors are helping her with medicine. Grandma is not in the hospital now. She is getting better so she was allowed to come back home again. I'm glad about that.
We also saw Oma and Opa and Great Grandma and Auntie Yolanda and Auntie Tanya and Uncle Kevin and Chelsea and Regan. And we saw Connery (my big cousin), Reesey and Ireland and Gideon and Auntie Tara and Uncle Sean. They live all together. They are a family.
It took about twelve hours to drive here to our new house. Most of the roads were good to drive on but sometimes they were pretty snowy. The trees were all covered with snow and that was really beautiful to see out of the window.
On the way, we played a lot of music and got to open little presents like stickers and snacks and little toys. I even made a chain of shapes with pipecleaners. Mommy made an elephant out of pipecleaners and I put it around my head for a funny picture.
Ellie liked the stickers a lot too.
We couldn’t get here in one day, so we stayed in a hotel. At the hotel, we went in an elevator and swam in the pool. There was two pools. The water in the circle pool was too too hot for me so I goed in the deeper pool. I had so much fun.
When we arrived at the house in North Carolina, we met Nipa and Abby. They are good dogs. They don’t bite. They like the treats that we give to them. When I tickle their backs, they do a little dance. Abby is light brown. Nipa has beautiful dark black fur on her. Sometimes other dogs come to visit, like the white and black boy dog that is here right now. Sometimes Abby and Nipa are friends with the new dogs. Sometimes Nipa chases them away.
There are lots of other animals that come near the house here. We have seen two deer from the window. One was a girl deer called a doe. She came very close to the house.
Close to our house there is a rabbit hole too. We saw the rabbit come out of his hole once already. We saw a bird called a Kingfisher a few days ago. He was looking for lots of fish to eat in the river nearby. If you get up early at this home, you’ll see beavers gathering up sticks. They can put a house together just using sticks. We haven’t seen the beavers yet, but we hope to see them soon.
I have a new bed here. Mommy and Daddy have a tall new bed. Eliana does not have a new bed. She is sleeping in her playpen. But she is sleeping well too.
We got here on a Sunday. On Monday, Mommy and Daddy both got sick with the flu that Eliana had last week and that I had the week before that. Hopefully, they’re both better now. They seem like they’re better. They’re not laying down anymore. They’re eating food with us and playing games with us and even dancing with us sometimes. Eliana and I have been doing a lot of dancing here at the new house in the room with lots of windows. I like to ask if I can go upstairs and "dress in a beautiful way." Then I come down with tights and a summer shirt on, and sometimes I dress like a princess. Yesterday, we even put skirts around our necks while we were dancing. It made Mommy and Daddy laugh.
We haven’t actually left the house yet because there have been two snowstorms this week. Yesterday we got almost a whole foot of snow. The one day we could have driven out of the driveway, Mommy and Daddy were sick. This afternoon our new friend Richard came over and plowed out the snow so that we can go to town tomorrow for the first time. Mom and Dad say that this is a pretty nice place to be snowed in. Here are some pictures of our first morning here.
I will miss my friends and my teddy bear and my Aunties and my class and all my grandparents but I'm glad that I'm here.

The things I like most about being here are dancing and my new bed.
I hope you’ll leave me a message so I know if you’re reading this.
Love Maia

Maia,
Wow!
You take great pictures! Try to get one of the bunny.
Those mountains are so majestic! Does the air smell different?
All that snow is giving me a chill.
Don't worry about sharing the flu - suffering together builds character. And Moms all tell their kids to share - that means bugs too!
We are taking good care of your house. It will be all ready for you when you are ready to come home. I think the snow may be gone though. You may have to bring some home with you.
Keep track of how much you grow. I bet you will be oodles and oodles taller! I bet Ellie will grow and grow and grow too.
We all love you and miss you and enjoy reading about your adventure online.
Try not to spend too much time on the Internet though.
-hugs.

It sounds like you're having a lot of fun! The house that you are staying at looks really pretty, and I wish I was there to see you dance with a skirt around your neck. That sounds funny!!
Tell mommy, daddy and Eliana that I say hello to them too. I love and miss you all very much!
Have a blast!
Love,

Hi Maia,
I hope too that your mom and dad are feeling better! Have a wonderful stay at your new house and in your new bed. Don't forget to still cheer for those Canadian Olympian's even though you are not in Canada =) Poor Brady and Kadan don't get a lot of cartoons in these days...their parent's are a little hooked.
I look forward to reading about your adventures at your new place!

Maia!
Thank-you for updating us so well! Might I say you have immaculate spelling and the wording of your sentences blows me away! You will have no problem jumping back into SK when you get back;)
I hope your mom and dad are feeling much better now! The flu made it's trip around Zurich! It was even able to catch me and I had only been home for 24hrs!!! Bugs are crazy like that!
I will be praying for you and your family while you are gone! Looking forward to your return! I hope you bring summer with you:)
Love lots,
Nelli xo
p.s. tell your mom I've been putting some stuff together for lyrics for our song:)

Hi Maia
Wow, you are an amazing blogger!
Perhaps you'll write stories like your mommy when you get older.
I love your pink dress and the pictures of you and your new house!
I can't wait to see the deer at your new house and hopefully we get to see the bunny too. Should we bring our boots or will the snow be all gone when we come for our visit on the wait to Florida?
Opa will really want to see the beaver, if he can...
It certainly sounds like you're having lots of fun. Give Eliana and Mommy and Daddy a hug for me, o.k.?
Love you lots....

Hi Maia,
It's Tracy here - I haven't seen you for ages because I'm Mommy and Daddy's friend in New Zealand! Remember, I brought you the little blue penguin? He'd love living in the mountains and the snow with you!
I love reading your story and am so excited about your adventures in North Carolina. You made me laugh many times and although I know it's no fun having the flu, you really made the thought of mommy and daddy lying down all the time really amusing (I hope you're all better now). It sounds (and looks) so beautiful! Sometimes I really wish I didn't live quite so far away... but then again... it's been such a beautiful summer here. Our seasons are opposite. We'll be heading into "Autumn". The nights are already getting cooler.
Have lots of fun, keep dancing, "dressing in a beautiful way" (you are going to be a fashion consultant) and enjoy your new bed!
Love,
Tracy
