musings of a mildly moronic musician mommy

Hey everybody. Eliana here.

Mom and Dad say there are a few things that you should all know about me, so I'm taking a turn at this blogging thing.

I am now 20 months old, but I'm practicing being two. I narrate everything. I am into everything. I could use the potty but I don't. I am highly entertaining. I say this because my parents and my sister seem to laugh at just about everything I do.

I smile most all the time. Not just in the pictures. It's true. Ask my family. I will sometimes even tell you that I am HAPPY in case you're not already convinced. If I'm not happy, it's probably because I need a snack. Or I need those teeth to come in already.

I am a tornado. At least that's my new nickname around here. I love to relocate things, especially to places where they can't be easily found. (Since mid-December, I had borne the stigma of being accused of relocating an important Christmas present. When mommy found it at last this week, she realized that it was she that had hidden it on herself, not me. At last my good name is cleared.) Today I think I took books off the shelf in the living room at least a half dozen times. I was particularly interested in C.S. Lewis. Mom and Dad say that at least I have good taste in authors. They say this will make sense when I'm old enough to appreciate good allegory.

When I love something, you'll know. I'll likely wiggle my bum and burst out with a hearty YEAH, OKAAAY! It's hard to miss.

I love NAKAN. No, I am not talking about being stripped down (although what kid doesn't like that too?). I am talking about music. NAKAN. I love it at naptime and bedtime. I love it when mommy sings to me -- especially "Head and shoulders, knees and toes". I love it on the computer (our stereo). I love it in the movies. And as of today, I love it in earphones. (Mom and Dad have concocted a clever plan to use an ipod with a jack splitter and two sets of earphones to keep Maia and I occupied for large stretches of time on long car trips.)

I love hiding. I will hide a part of my body (at least my eyes) and declare that I am HIDENE. I am adorable when I do this. And I know it.

Call me young for it, but it's true. I have a shoe fettish. Just yesterday, I brought a hiking shoe and a pink mary jane to mommy and asked her to put on one of each. When she insisted I find a match for one of the shoes, I opted for the hiking shoes. Once on, I decided to declare to the room what everyone was thinking of my sweet feet: CUTE!

I am a carnivore. I love meat. MEAT! I am also very fond of mexican food, pickles, hummus, olives and all things KOKETT (chocolate). I am quick to label things PICY (spicy) just like my big sis, except that I am likely to eat it anyways while she is likely to take a pass.

I love to laugh. Whether it's tickling (KIKLE!) or chasing or dancing or turning me upside down, I will laugh. If you come over, I'll show you my COLRENE (colouring). Oh, and PAYDOH! I love playdough like you wouldn't believe. I also think it's very cool to smear on my chair and clothes and makes for a surprisingly delicious snack. NACK! But I play the game well. If mommy or daddy happen to look over while I'm eating playdough, I'll make the confession they're looking for: YUCKY. I'm not sure they believe me.

If I know you want to put my coat or boots on, I will run away laughing. And since this has been the cause of my parents calling out, "C'm'ere, you little runner!", I now announce it myself as I flee. RUNNER! In fact, I have learned to instruct myself in a number of areas. For example, if you see me standing on the couch, I am now likely to say SIT DOWN! and subsequently do just that.

I have discovered the joy of snow. At first my parents thought I just couldn't keep my balance when I was all bundled up in a big snowsuit, but they soon realized that it was more that I just loved the snow and would intentionally throw myself down in it. Yes, I'm a little bit more reckless than my big sis. Mom says that between the two of us, I'm the one who's more likely to be a sky diver.

Lastly, you should know that I am very fond of praying. Especially when our family sings prayers at the dinner table. But beware. If I think you are speaking too long a prayer, I am liable to announce AMEN before you are done!

OOO, thanks for that tactic! I just may use that....
Keep smiling - you light up the whole world. I bet Maia taught you that.

Thanks for this, Monica. I'm going to have to study it to train myself in "Eliana language" for when she comes to our house.
She really is a happy child, eh?
You're going to love having this memory for when she's older.

Well done! I chuckled at many things as a couple in this house can relate! Thanks for sharing Eliana!

    Eliana,
You are quite an aspiring writer as such a young (although nearly 2) age. Thanks for updating those of us who live very far away... because so much changes in the span of 6 months at your age! Once you reach my age, you just start looking more and more like your mother. It's really really weird.

I can't wait to see you again. I hope you remember me. It took you a while but you eventually even let me hold you last time I saw you! And mom wasn't even in the room! I think if I was closer to your age, we might go skydiving together. Who knows? Maybe one day we will.
