improv

I've been teaching Maia to play the piano at home every now and then (mostly when she expresses interest). By June, we had a couple of fun duets that we were able to play together, so I invited her to play at my year-end recital last month. Why not? She is one of my students now, after all! And she did really well. I actually set up a mic for her so that people could hear her singing as she played "Twinkle Twinkle" and "Tigers at my Door". Unfortunately, I forgot to ask anyone to record it. That made me a little sad because it was such a special memory.

Lately, Maia has been improvising at the piano, and I was able to catch some of that on on video this week. This segment was pretty long so I divided it into two videos. Other than the sensitivity and creativity that is growing in her, my favourite moment is how she likes to finish all her pieces. Enjoy!

    Hey Mo,

My friend colleen referenced this Carolyn Arends article earlier today. When I read it for some reason I thought of you:
