great grandma

Last week I took the girls to see their Great Grandma. Being that it's a three hour drive to her place, this was the first chance she and Eliana have had to meet. It was also the first chance I've had to be able to share the song I recorded earlier this year that was partly inspired by her. I wasn't sure she caught all the words, but I could tell she was honoured by the thought because as soon as the song finished, she beamed: "Play it again!"

At 90, Grandma has reverted back to much of her Dutch, so my mom needs to do more translating than she used to. But the visit is always so worthwhile. One of my favourite moments was watching Eliana in her arms at the dinner table as we waited for lunch to be served. Ellie laid so still in her arms, which Grandma thought was special. Then Ellie reached up to touch her Great Grandma's face while she spoke to her in Dutch. I love that so much of our communication with each other can be understood without words.
