mo and mo

My dear friend Monica had twins a week ago today. A girl and a boy, named Rachel and Levi. (Wee little fact of interest: Opposite-sex twins make up one-third of the twin population, about one in 240 births.)
I had my pre-admit at the Stratford hospital on Wednesday at the same time as Rich and Mo were just putting their two new dolls in carseats to head home. I only had about a minute with them but it was a delight to see all of them doing so well. I can't even tell you how tiny these little ones are at not quite six pounds. Goodness -- the baby having a party in my belly right now is probably already a little bigger than these two! (The estimate is 6.5 pounds at 37 weeks.) Hoping that I'd catch them at the hospital, I had brought them a few newborn sleepers and then had to hand them over with the realization, "Oh, I hoped these would fit but they're clearly too big!" Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of these little beauties at the hospital, so you'll just have to imagine how miraculously perfect and beautiful these two little ones are....
A funny story about Mo and Mo. On a warm summer evening late last August we were sitting on their back porch having dessert when Monica asked if we thought we'd have more kids. I had a hunch I might be pregnant then but hadn't done the test yet so I said something like, "Yeah, we're hoping to...." Now for some families with four kids you just don't imagine any more for them. But the fact that Rich and Mo have four kids already didn't make me think they wouldn't possibly have more. They're "more the merrier" kind of people who welcome other kids into their home all the time and seem to think nothing of it. The kind of people you could envision having a super-sized family and just rolling happily along with things that would have many of us pulling out our hair. But for some reason I didn't ask the 'growing-family question' back to them. But there we both were, Mo and Mo, both in our first month of pregnancy, and not knowing.
So it's been fun to compare our bellies every now and then along the way. These shots were of us were taken at the piano recital not quite two weeks ago. Doesn't she look great!? (Okay, I know I look like I'm busting out of my clothes but they're really maternity clothes... I promise!)
I'm very thankful Mo, Rachel and Levi were all well enough to go home so soon. Congratulations, Rich and Mo! Love.... the other Mo.
