half way
It's hard to believe I'm already half way into this pregnancy! I am so thankful that things have gone so well with this little one. I don't take for granted a healthy baby when there are literally thousands of things that can go wrong as a little person is being so intricately developed. Thank you for all of you who have prayed for this baby to come safely into the world in May!
I had an ultrasound this week (20 weeks) and all is looking great. It was a joy to have Tim and Maia come in at the end to hear the heartbeat together and have the baby's different parts pointed out to us. It's no ordinary miracle to me to see that tiny mouth opening and closing, those hands and feet moving around, and to see that tiny heart beating on the screen. (You can even see the different chambers of the heart when you look closely -- crazy stuff!) Like Maia, this little one was doing a gymnastics routine during the ultrasound. And he/she (we don't plan to know) wanted to turn every which way except sideways to give us a nice profile shot. The technician was very patient, and finally got this shot right before we left. (It looks much less 'alien' than the other shots of the head, which I won't post here for those of you who already think I'm kooky enough to have an alien baby!)

I've been feeling movement for about six weeks already, but these last couple of weeks while my belly has been popping out (I already look like I did at about 7 months with Maia), I've been feeling some good little kicks. I find myself saying, "How can someone less than ten inches long make me jump up in my chair already?" And just like Maia, this one seems to be most active at night... just about the time I'm ready to sleep. Which Tim finds entirely ironic, since I'm usually the one keeping him up when he's ready for bed.
Thank you, Lord, for this extraordinary miracle. I don't take a day of it for granted.
