music that matters

So today I'm doing something a little unconventional. Instead of telling a story, I'm asking a question.
The question is not actually inspired by Maia... it was just a great opportunity to share this photo of her playing and singing her little heart out. (Wish I'd had that one on video!) Nor is it inspired by her favourite song of late, "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes". (She likes it sung as a lullaby at bedtime. Who would have thought?) Or the fact that she seems to have a particular affinity for the music of Coldplay. (She hasn't figured out how to bob her head to a good beat... instead she shakes her head back and forth with great conviction.)
In fact, if you don't mind, I'd like to wait to tell you what inspired the question. Here it is...
Can you name a song that helped to sustain you through a difficult time? A song that gave a voice to what you were thinking or feeling in a tough season of life, and yet offered you comfort, truth or hope?
If you can and you're willing, click on "comment" below and tell me about it. I'd love to know.

- Sara Groves' "Less Like Scars"
- a combination of Steve Bell's "Restless" {I guess I'll just be restless until you satisfy me) and Laurell Hubick's "Cut Through" (It's you and only you who satisfies)
- "Some People Change" by Montgomery Gentry
- and of course songs like "Great Is They Faithfulness" and "He's Always Been Faithful" and such.

Lord (I don't know) by NewsBoys
here is the chorus
"Lord I don't know where all this is going,
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt"
In times of uncertainy, this helps me.

Your song, "Search Me" - there's a heavenly quality about it - and it's a "God, please look deep inside me" kind of song. And that's what I need in times of disorientation - His gaze.
And then there's Harold Budd's instrumental piano sounds - and Cocteau Twins' "Lazy Calm".
And Supertramp's "Downstream". He sings, "we didn't have a care .. and all around was silence ..". How I need the silence. And "be with you through all seasons, I'll always hear you when you call .. we'll keep the love light shining through each night and day, a lonely life behind me, oh, what a change you've made .. so down here on the ocean we will stay..."
This speaks of two realities at once; gives poetic voice to them: that Jesus has promised to be with me always -- and that you and I have vowed the same to each other -- and both make THE world of difference. So, many times that we are together on our 'ocean' (the lakes we st or walk near throughout our life together) this song comes to mind. I am so very glad that God gave me you.
There's lot's more - but that's a good start.
