sandwich generation
I had to laugh this past week as I found myself pushing Val (my mom-in-law) in her wheelchair while Maia was loudly voicing her desire for my attention, and Val wittingly asked a question I hadn't given any thought to until that moment:
"You don't feel part of the sandwich generation at this moment, do you?"

Yes! Here's the definition, according to wikipedia:
"The Sandwich Generation are a generation of people who care for their aging parents while supporting their own children."
(FYI: Merriam-Webster officially added the term to its dictionary in July 2006.)
