happy new year

Apparently, most people break their New Years resolutions. So I have made one that I'm pretty sure I can keep. Feel free to ask me later in the year.

I love to read. Or rather, I love the idea of reading. I always have a long list of books waiting for me, but without a deadline that I have to read them for (ie. a course or a reading group) I am pretty stinkin lazy. So the TV is not going to see much of me this year (or I of it) because my New Year's Resolution is to read a book a month.

Some of you reading this will laugh because you read multiple books in a month. But other than reading through the Scriptures this past year, I can't say that I actually read more than three books. Shameful.

So here's to reading... some of my reading list includes:
Fresh Brewed Life (Nicole Johnson)
Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Art (Madeleine L'engle)
Out of Poverty (John Stackhouse)
The Irresistable Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical (Jim Wallis & Shane Claiborne)
Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust (Immaculee Ilibagiza)
Another Day in Paradise: International Humanitarian Workers Tell Their Stories (Carol Bergman) -- anyone seeing a theme here?
Prayer (Philip Yancey) - Tim gave me this for Christmas
Your Time Starved Marriage (Les & Leslie Parrot) - another one from Tim that I think we'll read together
Life of the Beloved (Henri Nouwen) -- and maybe some other Henri Nouwen
Abba's Child (Brennan Manning) - since I recently wrote a song partly inspired by this book, but haven't read it yet!
and maybe something lighthearted as well... I don't usually take the time for fiction, but I know there's lots of great fiction out there.

Anyone have any must-reads to recommend for me?

Anyone else make a resolution?

Hey Monica. I'd recommend Donald Miller's books if you haven't read them. Did you read Stackhouse's earlier book, 'Church'? It's awesome. I love everything by Frederick Buechner and Henri Nouwen. Let me know about the new Yancey book. He's great too.

I recently enjoyed Wendall Berry's "Jayber Crow" . . . as well as "(God in the Shadows) Walking From East to West" by Ravi Zacharias. Jayber Crow was perticularly thought-provoking (and thought-directing) for me.
    Happy reading.
    (((hug)))
